GDPR Sanctions – After lockdown, controls – and sanctions – are back on track for national enforcement authorities in Europe.

On Monday 13 July, the Italian authority imposed a heavy penalty of €16.7 million on Wind Tre S.p.A., an Italian telephone operator, for illegal commercial prospection and lack of legal basis. Indeed, consent was not validly obtained before sending customers the commercial prospection which was clearly untimely. The Italian authority also stated that Wind Tre was one of the companies for which it had received the most complaints, which seems to justify the heavy penalty.
